Bartlesville Examiner Enterprise ROSS WINS THE D.F.C., 6/17/1945 SOMEWHERE IN THE PACIFIC-(Delayed)-Marine First Lieutenant John D. Ross, of 509 ½ Shawnee, Bartlesville, Okla., has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for "heroism and extraordinary achievement in missions over the western Caroline islands. Ross, a Corsair pilot of the Fourth Marine air wing, has been overseas for the past 10 months. The lieutenant received his award from Marine Brigadier General C.F. Schilt. A graduate of Miami high school, the lieutenant worked as a construction worker prior to his enlistment for flight training. Mrs. Mary E. Ross, wife of the pilot, makes her home in Bartlesville. Mrs. Grace L. Ross, the flyer's mother, resides at 112 N. W. 24th Court, Miami, Fla. |
